“That seems like a nice meaning. All my name means is some kinda metal. My parents were weird and named me after a metal. I know it’s considered precious where I live because it doesn’t melt as quickly, but it’s still weird.”

“My parents thought about it for a long time before I was born so I trusted that they gave me a good name and stuck with it til I was able to read the meaning”

“Y’know in this time period, silver is used to make jewelry. The stuff that some people wear around their necks and in their ears. I also wore silver earrings once upon a time. That’s why it’s considered precious. Because it’s harder than gold to bend and break. Gold’s more precious than silver but it’s one of the softest metals in existence so it’s not good metal if you want to make armor.”

“Yeah… I know. But I just don’t feel right accepting medical attention. The thought of taking medication feels wrong to me. It’s just how I was raised, it’s who I am. I’ll be okay. I used to get sick to my stomach a lot as a kid, and I’m still okay. I think that’s why my stomach is so sensitive now.”

He blinked a few times before placing the next one in his mouth, his lips curling into a smile.

“They’re really good.”

“How about stuff that wouldn’t be considered medication? Like natural remedies and stuff like that? And I think that would definitely explain it.”

Rebecca broke into a wide smile, putting the box of strawberries down and leaning against the counter.

“I’m glad you like ‘em, Silv. I actually got them fresh this morning from the market. If you’d like, you can try an apple or an orange today too.”

“That’s just how it works in my world. I’m not human. I’m abnormal. Therefore, I don’t deserve medical treatment. I’m used to it, that’s how I grew up. I had to take care of myself if I got sick, or injured. I was always all alone. My parents… weren’t there. They had to escape, or they would have been killed.”

With a sigh, he took one. To his surprise, it was actually pretty good. It was a little sweet, and a little bitter at the same time. A fascinating combination.

“What’s stupid about those people’s attitude is that Pokemon get their own hospitals in every single village, town and city in this world. And people here more than welcome abnormalness. Remember what I told you about those who are chosen by a legendary?

Regardless, I’d be more than happy to treat you if you get hurt. After all, I’m not a doctor so I wouldn’t fall under their definition of medical care. Oh, do you like it? It’s called a strawberry and it’s a fruit, like apples.”

Rebecca gave him a smile and handed him another one to eat.

“They’re distantly related to berries but far enough that they’re their own kind of food.”
