“It doesn’t stop people from doing it.”

Silver didn’t feel like reaching up. Instead, he did the work with his psychokinesis, carefully placing everything in the basket. It would be faster if he did that, anyway.

“True, true. You do have the ability to walk away from the conversation, though.”

“Be careful with these berries, sweetie. One wrong squeeze and the juice in these things can burn an eye out. It’s only second to Tamato berries. Y’breathe fire with Tamatos if eaten alone.”

Rebecca worked carefully, making sure she didn’t accidentally squeeze any of the Cheri berries.

“It was everyone commenting on the way I looked. This is the third day in a row that all anyone seems to have cared about is my appearance. I know I’m huge, I don’t need it thrown in my face all the time.”

He just sort of shuffled his feet, his usual enthusiasm having been completely drained from his conscious. “Yeah. That wouldn’t be a good thing at all.”

Rebecca peeked out from behind the first tree with a raised eyebrow while she adjusted her headphones.

“In my personal opinion, commenting about someone’s appearance without that person asking for an opinion is honestly rather rude.”

She quietly huffed and got started on the first Cheri tree, carefully picking each fragile berry and putting them in her basket.

“Could you get the other side for me, Silv? Like last time y’helped out?”

“Maybe. I don’t know. Today’s only just started and now I wish it was over.”

While he followed, his motions were much slower. He didn’t feel like doing much of anything.

“I know how that feels sometimes.”

Rebecca waited patiently for Silver to catch up, gently ruffling his quills with a warm smile.

“I’m not sure what happened but try to relax a bit, Silv. If you’re feeling better later, I’ll make you something special, okay? Now let’s get started, we don’t want the berries to fall and squish on the ground.”

“Alright. But I don’t want anything. I feel sick.”

“Okay then, Silv. If you’d like, you can take out a futon and rest in one of the bedrooms until you feel better.”

“Here, this one’s for you.”

Rebecca handed him a basket with a cyan ribbon tied on it, leading him outside to the orchard.

That wasn’t the reaction he was expecting. Those were names he only vaguely recognized. It had been a while since she explained the strange creatures that roamed her world.

“Cool? That’s the first time anyone has said that.” He was shaking, but not as badly as he had been the last time he revealed his birth marks to someone. “They’re just these annoying marks that brand me as a monster to everyone in my world.”

“A monster? Poo to them, those marks are wonderful.”

“In this world, one child out of a million is born with markings similar to a legendary Pokemon. That child is basically that legendary Pokemon’s incarnation in the world and is trained to control their slight powers by the previous incarnation. Said child is considered sacred.

Had you been born here, you probably would be considered Rayquaza’s incarnation, if not Kyogre’s.”

Rebecca was resisting the urge to inspect Silver’s markings up close, out of consideration for the other’s personal space and feelings.

He didn’t bother saying anything. If he was going to do it, he wanted to get it over with. He took a sharp breath, and released, his eyes closing. Silver needed a moment to get himself together. “Okay.” He voiced, before quickly taking off his gloves. His boots were soon to follow. There was an unstoppable anxiety threatening to send him into a panic attack. He wasn’t sure that would ever stop when it came to removing his only clothing.

And he stood there, his hands, and feet glowing. The markings imprinted into his very skin.

As soon as she saw the markings, her eyes went wide in surprise and a bit of awe.

It took just a moment for Rebecca to find her voice.

“Holy mother of Arceus, Silv. Those are the coolest birthmarks I’ve ever seen!”

“Y’look like an incarnation of Groudon or Kyogre or even Rayquaza with them!”

“Don’t worry about it.” Silver was a little paranoid himself. It wasn’t often that he revealed what he was about to reveal, but he was trying to accept it. Trying to be more open.

“Okay.”

Rebecca was relieved that Silver didn’t mind her paranoia. After years of dealing with paparazzi, this was how she learned to combat them. She leaned against the bathroom counter, her arms holding her up comfortably.

“Alright, Silv. The floor’s yours so say anythin’ ya like.”
