“I’m just not used to it, that’s all…” Silver wasn’t used to people caring about him, but he was slowly adjusting. Since coming to the past, he had met a lot of people who were wonderful. Who looked out for his well being.

“Lucky doesn’t begin to describe what I am. I don’t even know how to describe what I am. I’ve gotten to experience blue skies, and happy faces. I’ve gotten to experience kind humans. I’ve gotten to experience food, and rain, and so many other things I can’t list off the top of my head. These are things I never dreamed I’d get to see. A lot of them I didn’t even know existed! I don’t deserve all of this kindness.”

“And I’m not gonna stop caring anytime soon, either.”

“Everyone deserves kindness, Silv. Whether it be a little or a lot.”

Rebecca smiled into her mug, finishing up her hot cocoa and putting it down on the table. Nothing like a warm drink on a cold rainy day.

“I’ve gotten hurt a lot, there’s no way to avoid it. I’ve got a lot of scars, too. It just happens. I do what I can to avoid the heat, but I’m kinda used to it by now. You don’t have to worry about me.”

He had been neglecting his own mug for too long. When he picked it up again, he finished half the thing in one breath. His tail beat against the chair, that was how wonderful it made him feel.

“Friends are really great to have. I’m lucky I have so many friends in the past.”

“I worry cause I care about you, y’little sweetie.”

“Each one of those scars is proof you survived something tough, Silv.”

Rebecca reached a gentle hand to softly tap Silver’s nose as she smiled bright. She was very glad he was enjoying the hot cocoa.

“Especially friends that care about you. You’re a very lucky hedgehog, hun.”

A pudgy gray hedgehog casually swoops in from the air, dropping off a heart shaped box of chocolates and delivering a kiss on the forehead before flying away, without a word.

“Silver-?”

Oh look who’s face was bright pink now. She was carefully holding the box of chocolates with a small smile.

“He’s certainly the last person I expected to be able to fly… I’ll thank him if he comes by later.

I’ve got chocolate to make, hehe.”

“I’ve kinda learned that the hard way. Sometimes I have to get pretty close to it. It depends on the circumstances. I avoid it at all costs, but… it’s hard to avoid something that’s everywhere you go.”

There was no escaping the flames. Unless you went back in time, of course.

“As long as you don’t get hurt or anything. I have experience fighting really huge monsters. The humans in my world have no way to defend themselves. I guess it’s different for other worlds.”

“I hope you weren’t hurt…”

“If you can’t avoid it, just be careful okay? Try to keep off the ground if you can, those parts are normally the hottest.”

Rebecca put her mug down, smiling warmly at him.

“I won’t be. I’ve had enough scrapes in my lifetime that I know how to avoid them. I’ve got friends who’ll help me out too.”

“Only if it can cool down. There are some places where that’s impossible. Where it only continues to flow. It destroys everything, and the only rocks it produces are glowing red ones that are made of solid magma.”

Oddly enough, it made him feel a little homesick. Silver had to spend long periods of time away from his own world, and even though it was a living hell, it was home. It was where he grew up. The past was nice to visit, but there was no place like home.

…He would have to go back home sometime in the near future. For now, he would just enjoy the wonderful treat he had been given. He took a glance at his gloves, frowning at the birthmark shining through. Not on his gloves. Maybe one day he would feel confident enough to show someone.

“I hope those terrible things never happen here. I hope this world is always beautiful, and always has rain, and trees. I don’t know how other timelines work.” It left him afraid that another world may end.

“Jeez, the air there must be sweltering hot. Please tell me you don’t go near it, when it’s still red hot like that, anything within a certain distance could burst into flames due to the heat.”

Rebecca looked a bit worried for Silver’s world now. She sipped her hot cocoa some more before giving him a determined smile.

“If anyone tries to use Groudon or Kyogre for evil reasons, I’ll be the one to stop them.”

“I’m not… very fond of magma…”

That was what he was surrounded by his entire life. Lava. It was dangerous, and Silver had gotten burned on more than one occasion by the fires it caused. Burns weren’t much fun to deal with.

“I don’t know much about water, but water is pretty, and it doesn’t hurt you. Magma produces fires, and destroys buildings. But they’re both interesting. It’s kinda eerie the way their markings match my—” He cut himself off for a moment. “…Gloves.”

“That’s what I figured. Though cooled off magma can be pretty. Sometimes it forms a rock called obsidian, a glass-like black stone. It really depends how it cools off.”

Rebecca reached a hand across the table to ruffle Silver’s quills with a bright smile. She leaned back again to sip at her cocoa.

“Normal water is perfectly harmless, it’s actually good for you. Water has minerals that help various parts of your body. Super-heated water on the other hand, that’s when it gets dangerous. It can scald or burn you pretty badly after a certain temperature.

I find them both pretty amazing because they can both change the weather in an instant. Groudon has droughts and Kyogre has floods. And yeah, it’s really cool that they match your gloves.”

holdingmyworldsdestiny:

“Yeah… my concentration. Like… how I think about things.” That was a close call. He needed to calm down. If he got too emotionally compromised, his power would make itself apparent whether he wanted it to or not.

“That red one… it makes me feel strange.” It reminded him of Iblis. A tall, red creature with menacing looking arms. “I think the blue one is prettier.” There was no denying that the markings on both of those creatures were eerily similar to his birthmarks. There were only a few differences, but the basic shape held true. A large circle, with a line coming down the center.

“That’s pretty cool. I didn’t think other worlds had bracelets like that.”

“Groudon makes you feel strange? It’s most associated with earth and magma. According to research, it’s a pure Ground type.”

Though the comment that Kyogre was prettier got a small giggle out of her.

“Kyogre, the blue one, is most associated with water. According to research, it’s a pure Water type.

When the two clash, it normally results in either new land or floods.”

“Oh, yes! This stuff is really, really great! I love it! Thank you so much for letting me have some!”

It was a good thing he hadn’t been sipping when she asked that. His gloves were honestly very dirty by now, but suspiciously enough, despite how dirty they were, the design was still in perfect condition. The reason for that was, his gloves held no design. His birthmark was always shining through the fabric.

“Um…” His ears drooped, as did his expression. “No… they were… um, given to me like this. The cuffs help me with my… uh……” That word was dragged out. He hadn’t meant to let on that he had powers. “U-Um…” Now he stuttered, clearly very nervous. “They’re… just gloves…”

“The cuffs help you with your… concentration? There are some bracelets like that in this world.”

Rebecca had taken a wild guess, having a bracelet like that somewhere in her closet. She took another sip of her cocoa before responding again.

“I think they’re pretty cool for gloves. Lemme show you what those legendaries look like, hang on.”

Rebecca took her Pokedex out from her pocket and scrolled to the correct entries. She held it out to show him with a bright smile.

“This is Groudon.” -scroll- “And this is Kyogre.”

“O-Oh!” He blinked, trying hard to recover from the near panic attack he had just suffered. He walked very carefully, paranoid that the slippers would fall off. This marked his very first time sitting at an actual table. With Blaze, they had always just sort of camped out on the couch, and talked. This was kind of like that, but kind of different at the same time. Either way, he honestly found tables to be fascinating.

He blinked at the concoction. It definitely smelled really good. He picked up the glass, his eyes immediately widening at the way it warmed his hands. That must have been his favorite feeling. He brought the edge to his lips, where Silver was overtaken by the most amazing flavor he had ever experienced.

It was like one of those candy bars, but ten times better. Warm, and comforting. When he swallowed, it felt as though the warmth resonated within his entire body. That was a level of good feeling he wasn’t sure he had ever quite experienced before. It was kind of like pizza. It warmed you up, and made you feel really good. Needless to say, Silver was in love with it.

“With that expression, I’m gonna assume you like it.”

“Hot cocoa is one of my favorite things to have on a rainy or snowy day.”

Rebecca sipped at her own mug before tilting her head curiously.

“Y’know, I never noticed it before now but your gloves are really cool. Did you sew that design yourself, Silver? It kinda looks like the markings on another region’s legendaries.”

A lot of emotions were going through his chest right now. Fear, sadness, guilt. He wanted to accept her kind gesture. He wanted to try out these new things. But what if his birthmarks showed through? What if the glow was too bright? The thought made him sick. What was a person supposed to do in this kind of situation?

But she was gone again. He took a deep breath, and went for it. Silver took his boots off. For a moment, he glared at his feet. He absolutely hated the birthmarks he was born with. It wasn’t fair. Why did they have to exist? Why did he have to be such a freak? With a rapid shake of his head, Silver put those things on. His worst suspicion was confirmed.

Anxiety flooded his chest when the glow persisted through the socks. Silver felt as though he was going to get really sick right then and there. He was near tears as he put his feet into the slippers. The glow was gone. A pair of thick socks, and the slippers were enough to mask his curse.

Even now, Silver still felt sick, in spite of the relief that had washed over him. At least he was safe.

The noise of the microwave could be heard down the hallway before the quiet beeping that it was done. Rebecca poured a bit more cold milk in the mixture to make sure it wasn’t too hot before mixing it all together and calling to Silver.

“Silver, the hot cocoa is ready! Come have a taste!”

There was the quiet tapping of Rebecca’s slippers on the wood floors as she carried the mugs to the dining area, placing one on the table while sitting down and taking a small sip.

Just the right temperature.
