“Nah… just a headache.”

He easily relaxed with all that petting going on. Petting was such a comforting motion, how could he not? His eyes closed as his expression softened. “I’m fine. You don’t have to worry about me.” A quiet yawn. “But it’s really nice of you to help me like that.”

“Just gotta make sure, okay? I don’t want you to get a concussion.”

“I worry cause you’re my friend, Silver. Helping is what friends do.”

Rebecca got onto her knees and sat down, still petting Silver and keeping the ice against his bump.

“I won’t forget that.”

Just another knowledge pellet stored away for future reference. Ice was good for a wound that was swelling. His eyes closed as he enjoyed the sensation. Ice was a fascinating thing. It was too bad he would never be able to bring any back home.

“Here’s another tidbit. After a head injury, it’s wise to seek help as soon as possible. It might’ve been a serious injury had I not caught it with ice now.”

Rebecca gently pet Silver’s quills, being careful to stay away from the icing bump.

“After he hit you, were you dizzy or queasy at all?”

“Hey—!”

That was actually really cold. He had never experienced a cold like that before, not once in his life. Not even snow was that cold, as far as he was concerned. But within moments, he relaxed. To feel that chill against his head felt very good, as did the water that came with melting ice.

“Oooh,” He voiced. “I like that stuff.”

“It’s called ‘ice’, Silver. It can be used for many things and this is one of them. Reducing swelling.”

“Feels good, right? That means it’s working to bring down the swelling. Swelling in your head is very dangerous to walk around with, hun. I’m very glad I caught it in time.”

Rebecca gently hugged Silver, keeping the ice against his bump.

“But if a person means well, and still messes up, don’t they deserve forgiveness? At least they were trying to do the right thing. They just… hit a little bump, that’s… all…” His voice trailed off. He was completely distracted by the creature that had just come out.

“Preeeettttttyyyyyyyyyy.”

“If they didn’t do it on purpose and can prove as such, then yes-”

“Like him? His name’s Triton.”

Rebecca held out a hand towards Triton and said ‘Ice Beam, please’. Within seconds, there was a large piece of ice in the trainer’s hand and gently pressed against the swelling.

“This should help, Silver.”

“Only if you have something extra.”

He certainly didn’t want to take from those who didn’t have it to give. Silver had gotten used to accepting help, it didn’t make him feel so bad anymore. But he was still very careful about it.

“I do, actually. I’ve got tons of extra clothes if you wanna go through them one day with me. Maybe you’ll find something you like.”

Rebecca was more than happy to share, she had packed away so many sets of clothes that she didn’t wear anymore.

“Well… he had good intentions. Maybe he just didn’t realize what he was doing. I’m sure he’s sorry.”

Silver honestly couldn’t bring himself to be angry at anyone, not even those who sought to harm him. His ear twitched when she ran her finger over the bump that was still there. It still stung just a tad.

“Good intentions may be there but he still hurt you.”

“Oh jeez, I really feel the lump. I’ll have Triton make some ice to bring the swelling down, okay?”

Rebecca took out a Pokeball and tossed it up, her Vaporeon Triton touching down with a ‘Vreee!’

“I’m sure he didn’t mean to be mean…”

But he wasn’t about to try and break out of that embrace. Silver enjoyed hugs.

“Silver, bashing someone in the head hard enough to knock them out is crystal clear intent to harm. He certainly meant it.”

Now Rebecca was gently running her fingers through his quills to check for damage.

“Someday I wanna try wearing clothes. It looks like fun. I tried wearing something of Blaze’s once, but I couldn’t get the top half to come down all the way like it does when she wears it.”

That would be on the list of things Blaze didn’t need to know about.

“I think you’d look nice in a good pair of pants and a shirt. I’d be more than happy to lend you something. The most important thing is that you’re comfortable in them.”

And of course, Rebecca wouldn’t tell anyone named ‘Blaze’. If she ever met anyone named Blaze that is.

“Today is too sad for things like that. The sky seems like it’s crying instead of being sunny.” He glanced down at his chest for a moment before shrugging. “Yeah. Sometimes I wear it, but only when I know it won’t get messed up or anything. It’s pretty.”

“I guess it is. A bit miserable, huh?”

Rebecca smiled at that.

“It looks good on you, Silver. The blue really goes well with your fur.”
