He did just that. Eyes widened with childlike curiosity, Silver blinked a few times, tilting his head to the left. He wasn’t sure exactly what he was going to be seeing, but he certainly wanted to see it.

What he caught a glimpse of was just as breathtaking as any flower, if not more so. Dazzling oranges, and yellows stretching across the sky. Honestly, it reminded him of home. Those were the standard colors a person saw in Crisis City. The only difference was, it had so many beautiful surroundings. There wasn’t smoke in the air, and it wasn’t unbearably hot.

Silver was at a complete loss for words. All he could do was stare, his jaw wide open in awe.

Rebecca got up and brushed off any stray blades of grass before crouching over next to Silver.

“And just think. If you come over again, you’ll get to see this again along with a sunrise and the moon. If you wait long enough, you can see the moon today, too.”

“I see things like this nearly every day here. And every day, it gets more and more beautiful.”

Those words encouraged him to look around. To study his surroundings. There was so much life in this world. A world full of life had to be the best kind of world. He took in another deep breath through his nose. Clean air was such a beautiful thing compared to a world of ash. So much better for a person’s lungs.

“Sunrise? Sunset? Moon?” Now he was confused again. None of those concepts existed where he was from. When the sun came up, or went down, Silver had always been asleep, or too busy to notice. He was a little too scared of the dark to notice the moon. When it get dark, he had simply taken to hiding out somewhere for the night. “I hope those are as pretty as trees.”

“Three of my favorite things. A sunrise is in the morning, a sunset is in the evening. And the moon shines bright at night with the stars.”

“I’d be more than happy to show you them when you come over again. They’re really worth the visit. In fact, it’s just about sunset right now. Look over to your left and through the trees.”

There was the sunset was reflecting off of Undella Bay, looking absolutely beautiful.

“If I ever got the chance, I would love to come back here to visit. It’s really pretty, and everything smells really nice.” This had to be one of the most beautiful locations he had ever seen in all his life. Nature in itself was breathtaking. Silver knew he would never get tired of seeing it. To meet a person who was so nice, that only made things even better.

“I’ll remember that. I’ll remember the really nice human I got to meet.” The proof that humans weren’t inherently bad. That those he grew up around had been scared, and if the world hadn’t ended, they would have been just as sweet as this person was. “I can remember the color red. It’s a pretty color."

"Well, you’re welcome back any time you wish, Silver. This is actually Undella Forest, the town is about a mile away from here. The things you’re smelling are actually the local plants and trees.”

“I can even make something nice for you. My mother taught me how to make Berry Juice so you can have that when you’re over.”

She had to agree there. Red could be beautiful in the right environment.

“And if you’re over long enough, you can see the sunrise, the sunset and even the moon.”

Silver didn’t know who Arceus was. In his world, people prayed to someone else. But that didn’t really matter right now. Not to him, at least. Even if he didn’t recognize the name, the sentiment behind it was what mattered.

“That makes me happy.” He allowed his eyes to close as he returned the gesture. Physical affection was something he didn’t get much of. He cherished it. To Silver, it was something very special to receive. “Everything will work out. I just have to try hard enough.” He needed to be more focused.

“And y’know what? You can always come back to this world if you need a break or rest.”

Rebecca gently ruffled his quills with a smile, still hugging for a moment before pulling away and sitting down next to her bag.

“I have a home in a town called Undella that you can stay at whenever you need it. It’s got a red roof if you’re ever Flying over the town. I’m growing a ton of Berry trees over there, too. Also, don’t forget that if you need support, I’ll be there for ya.”

“…Probably yeah, that’s why my wish is going to be that my world never ended. That way it doesn’t really matter whether I existed or not, ‘cause the event wouldn’t have happened to begin with. But I was born after the world ended, which means I won’t exist. Nobody alive in my world right now will exist anymore. They will be reborn, and will know what happiness is.

I don’t know if I’ll be reborn or not, but even if I am, it won’t really be me. I’ll have experienced an entirely different life.” That was probably one of the worst parts about the whole deal. He was never going to see what a wonderful world his planet turned out to be. “There’s nothing else that can be done. If I don’t do this, my world will die. Billions of people will never get the chance for happiness.” His eyes lowered. “I couldn’t live with myself if I let that happen.”

"I… I’ll pray to Arceus that you get reborn… okay? You deserve happiness too.”

After this, she would go to the nearest shrine and pray for his happiness. Even if she stayed there for hours on end. She wanted that prayer to be heard.

“And if you’re reborn, I’ll definitely teach you how to make a Berry Garden again. It’ll be the best one yet, too. It’ll be all sorts of colors with lots of flowers. You’ll even get your own gardening tools, too.”

Rebecca lifted herself up on her knees and wrapped gentle arms around Silver’s head in a hug. It seemed like he needed it right now.

“I dunno what that means, but there’s plenty of lava under the ground. Well… maybe it would be better to say in between the ground. It’s all broken up in most places. Or the road is broken. It’s not a very nice place, certainly not somewhere that someone should be living. I think I grew up okay, but I really worry about the humans. I just want them to be okay. That’s why I’m going to save it.”

He hadn’t meant to go on a tangent like that. This was a subject that was very important to him.

“About that…” A nervous chuckle. “I won’t be around anymore when it happens. I’m going to erase my birth from ever happening. Rewriting it so that Iblis is never released is the only thing I can do. B-But I don’t think you’ll forget me, since your memories were made in your world!”

image

“It means there’s an underground pool of water somewhere-”

“Erasing your own birth…? I’d approve of this ‘Iblis’ thing never getting released but… If you erased your own birth, wouldn’t that mean you never went back in time to begin with?”

Oh Rebecca, don’t over think it.

“In all honesty, I think I’d still want you to exist, Silver.”

holdingmyworldsdestiny:

“That would be nice… but water never cools down no matter where you put it. Nothing does, honestly. There’s too much fire everywhere.” But it was still a wonderful thought. “Where I’m from, the world ended. We don’t have beautiful things like there are around here. Not yet, at least."

His hands came to rest on his hips, a rather proud smile on his face. “One day my world will look like this one. There will be blue skies, and everyone will be happy. Trees will grow, and people will be able to eat the food that grows on them. It’ll be a wonderful place.” Part of Silver wished he would be around to see it. But that would have been selfish.

"The world-?!”

“Holy Arceus… Maybe you can leave a watering can full of water with me so it can cool down. Then you can use that to water the tree when the soil gets dry. I mean, if there are hot springs that aren’t drying up, it has to be some kind of underground water supply.”

At least that was what made sense to her. She gave him a smile at that, though.

“I’d like to see your world one day when that happens. Maybe you can show me around it.”

holdingmyworldsdestiny:

image

“I don’t think I could do that…” As wonderful of an idea as it sounded. The thought of having a world full of trees that produced food was one he would strive for. But it was too late for his world to be beautiful. It was too far gone. Rewriting his world was the only option he had.

“Water is hard to find, and it’s usually really hot if you find a pool of it. Sometimes humans use those pools to ease injuries, but it’s really dangerous. Putting yourself in a vulnerable state like that is just begging to be attacked by a monster.” That was something he really didn’t like to see. “If I put something as fragile as a leaf on the ground, it would burst into flames on contact. It’s just too hot.”

“Then I suggest starting with one. Orans and Pechas are well known to have rather large harvests when they’re fully grown. I think it’s at least seven to nine berries per harvest.”

“Each harvest has a growing time of about 72 to 96 hours so you can stock up pretty quickly.”

Rarely any water, huh? Rebecca quietly thought to herself for a solution before snapping her fingers with an idea.

“How about I give you a spare watering can? You can collect that warm water and wait for it to cool down before using it on the tree.”

It wasn’t the best of ideas but it was a start.

holdingmyworldsdestiny:

Oh, this was very special to him. It was the first time anyone had been kind enough to give him a tangible gift. The food was going to be saved, and possibly shared. The cloth was going to be carefully taken care of. The hedgehog looked it over, his head tilting to both sides, a smile slowly growing.

“I can never thank you enough for this.” Everything about this place was beautiful. This was the kind of place he wanted his own world to be one day. Then humans would be as kind, and wonderful as this one was. “I’m only going to eat them if I really need them. Food is hard to come by where I’m from. It’s a precious resource. We can’t grow it.”

“No need. Y’deserve it, hun. Everyone needs some healthy food in their lives.”

“And that’s a pretty good idea. It’s good to keep spare rations around just in case.”

They couldn’t grow food in his world? Was it a desert?

“I’m gonna take a guess and ask if water is rare there too? The best way to grow berry trees is to take some brown leaves and scatter them around the bottom of the trunk. It’ll help give it nutrients if you don’t have a lot of soil to work with.

If you’re able to grow one tree with the berries and soil I gave you, don’t doubt if you can grow more. It takes time and effort but I think you can do it.”

“Mhm.”

That was the only response he could give with his cheeks puffed out. He had stuffed the entire thing in his mouth at once, and now he was riding on the waves of pleasure that came with that sweet, wonderful taste in his mouth. Berries must have been some kind of natural wonder or something. It reminded him of chocolate.

“I don’t want to put you out or anything. You don’t have to do anything special for me.” Even though he would have gladly taken more of them.

“I’m glad you like ‘em, Silver.”

Rebecca chuckled quietly. He looked absolutely adorable and it filled her with pride that she could give him something nice. The trainer went into her hoodie pocket and took out a folded cloth, opening it and putting it on the ground. She put about five of both Pechas and Orans on the cloth before wrapping it up and tying it tight.

“I’m more than happy to share these with you, hun. You deserve ’em. Plus, you’ll need at least one to start your berry garden.”

She offered the cloth to Silver with a bright smile.
