“Well, he’s not the first asshole who’s done that, but i appreciate you kicking his ass because I’d get fired if i did it. Not sure what he meant when he said you were using me, since as much as i like you, i’m not allowed to give discounts like that”
“I’d do it again too. No one takes advantage of ‘Suke. And I dunno why he said it either. I pay full price at Junes like anyone else, no special discount or anything. He was such a weenie.”
He jumps, nearly knocking over a display (A valentine’s day related one, amusingly enough) and stumbled around before finally getting his balance back. “Um heey, Becca-chan, so…how much of that did you hear?” While deep down he already knew that she’d heard the whole thing, he was in denial about it.
“A-Ah! Are you okay?”
She already had her hands lifted to try to help, but she saw he could handle it himself. Then he asked the question and her face lit up in bright red.
“Valentine’s day is coming up huh? That reminds me, i should really ask Partner to teach me how to make chocolates for Becca-chan” Yosuke says to himself as he unpacks some boxes, completely ignorant to how she was standing like 5 feet away.
“U-Uh… ‘Suke?”
She quietly spoke up, probably startling him and breaking him out of his thoughts.
“Ah…shit” Yosuke had barely recovered from his and Rebecca’s scrolls exploding (They were given spares, luckily for him) when he was interrupted by the sight and sound of multiple large grimm gathering to the forest. He drew his kunai in his bandaged hands and switched them to gun mode. He took a breath and jumped down the cliff, hoping at least his partner was behind him. For her sake he decided to wait before moving anymore
“Banzai!”
Rebecca squeaked, jumping off after her partner, crashing right into a tree below. She laughed in delight as she climbed down the branches, twigs falling off her once she was down.
“Well i do have an alternative to climbing, but it might be a little bumpy, and i’d need to take that break to recharge my stamina.” he said, finding a nearby tree stump to sit on and pulling a bottle of water from his bag. He drank from it, before offering it to her. “You should drink something, partner, we’ve been running around pretty much Non-stop”
“I’ve got a couple energy bars. Trade then~!”
Rebecca gently handed Yosuke an energy bar, carefully taking the bottle and sipping a little water. After she took a bite of her own bar, she scooted away a bit, handing back the water bottle, so she could shake out the excess water from her hair.
“I don’t like using ice very often but it’s useful, ahaha… A pain in the ass when I gotta melt it though.”
She chuckled a little, coming back over to her partner. Her side locks were still a little damp but they’d dry in time.
He let out a sigh of relief as she came running after him. While he totally trusted her and knew she’d be okay, something (the kiss, maybe?) had made him feel far more paranoid than he should’ve been “I’m glad you’re okay, Rebecca” he admitted, using her real name for once.
He was still kind of beating himself up over that whole kiss. Even if it was obvious she didn’t mind. Even if he liked her, which he did, they’d known each other for less than a day. Overall, she filled him with many, many conflicting emotions
“I do my best to keep my word~!”
Rebecca chirped happily, giving Yosuke a warm, one-armed hug before checking him over. Once she was sure he was alright, she patted him on the back before pointing forwards.
“Off we go? We got a cliff to climb, if if ya wanna take a small break before we do, that’s fine with me.”
“What’re you saying!? I can’t just leave you, we’re partners!” He exclaimed, drawing his Kunai and switching them into gun mode. Upon her insistence, he groaned loudly, before finally conceding. He shot wildly at the grimm in an attempt to give her a bigger advantage and finally turned toward the forest “If I don’t see you in 5 minutes I’m coming back, got it? Now stay alive, partner” he said, kissing her on the cheek and bolting away reluctantly.
“You won’t be! I’m makin’ some time for us both!”
Another swing sent another blade of ice at the Grimm, her iced over braids clinking on her headset as she dodged a wild swing from the creature. As soon as she felt the kiss on her cheek, her face lit up brilliantly, steam rising from her braids.
“G-Gotcha! Five minutes…!”
It took her just a split second to come back to her senses and dodge a swipe from the damn thing. Two minutes would be enough for him to get away a good distance, right?
Rebecca started spinning her naginata, creating several wheels of ice she sent flying at the grimm, one by one, to distract it long enough for her to run away. Letting out puffs of white as she warmed herself up, running after her partner.
“’Suke!”
She shouted after him, running up alongside him with her naginata folded up now. When she caught up to him, she had to catch her breath, the ice melted off her braids. Then, she gave him a bright grin, happy he was okay.
“Alright then! I’ll jump up and grab it, cover me and make ” he instructed, summoning a strong gust of wind to boost him up over a grimm, snatching the white rook and doing an action pose before he recovered his balance
He then lept over the grimm again, using his other kunai to leave a gash as he passed, landing beside her again “Well, i wounded it, but i dont think it’s-” he was interrupted by a loud roar. “-dead yet…” he finished
“Shit.”
With that said, she clicked her rifle again, unfolding it into a naginata before a white glow surrounded the blade this time. The ends of her braids started icing over somewhat as she swung the naginata, sending icy blades at the grimm.
“I’ll keep it busy, you get outta here and I’ll follow!”
Rebecca seemed deadly serious about it. She wasn’t intending to sacrifice herself, but instead buy at least a minute for Yosuke to get out of the ruins. Another swing lopped off a limb the grimm was reaching out towards her partner.
