The hedgehog expression hit that ‘oh’ look before he smiled. “Yeah, well, tons’a people seem t’ warm up t’ me pretty fast. Couldn’t tell ya why, though.”

image

“For what’s it’s worth, you don’t strike me as that kinda person at all. The way I see it, you’re a hero and the people that’re are still out there treating their friends like that’re missing out on something great.”

Of course, he wasn’t happy about that fact, that there could still be people out there acting like that, but what could he do about it?

“I… what-?”

Rebecca looked surprised at his words, her grip on her headphones fumbling as they fell onto her neck. Everything was silent to the champion before she pulled them back on, looking at Sonic with a surprised expression.

justsimplespeed:

The hedgehog laughed at the chirp. “Oh good, had me worried there for a sec’.

So there are hundreds of these guys and people like you raising ‘em and living with them, right?”

image

“Sounds pretty cool t’ me, apart from the Ghes – or whatever guy.”

Triton chirped at Sonic, pawing at him some more before bouncing over to Rebecca and hopping onto her shoulder with practiced ease.

“You’re lucky. He never warms up to people this fast. Especially not other species. He’s a rescue, you see.”

“Some of Ghestis’s words were true. There are some loonies out there who hurt Pokemon for shits and giggles. And I can’t deny that the Plasma figurehead taught me what being friends with ‘em is all about.”

justsimplespeed:

It was a basic description and it did the trick, seeing as how the Mobian’s ears perked up in realization soon after.

Though her throwing a little ball into the air really only raised up a new batch of questions, not to mention this ‘Vaporeon’ in front of him. He didn’t quite understand it but that wasn’t a grand surprise.

“…Er, nice t’ meet you too?"

"This is only one example out of hundreds. All different sizes and shapes.”

Triton moved and pawed at Sonic’s face, chirping at him before chirping at Rebecca.

“Vaporrr~!”

“He likes you. Congrats.”

justsimplespeed:

The Mobian simply nodded to the parental fact – could be worse, he supposed, after all he’d seen it – then shifted his weight as the story was told. Considering he didn’t know what in the world a Pokémon was Sonic felt like he had missed a giant part of the story but had gathered the fact that the whole incident hadn’t been a good one and that the chick in front of him had some serious hero skills.

“O~kay. Just one question…”

image

“What’s a Pokémon?”

“Pokemon are creatures that live among humans, helping them in their daily lives and such.”

Rebecca pulled a Pokeball off her belt before tossing it up. Out came Triton, her Vaporeon. The Pokemon looked up at Sonic, tilting his head.

“Vaporrr~”

“This is Triton, a Vaporeon.”

justsimplespeed:

Made sense, after all how many of his own alternates had he met over the last year and a half?  Too many to keep track of? Yep.

“Sorry t’ hear it.”

“Seems a lotta people’s family’s are like that nowadays but I guess it’s a good thing ya still like ‘em both. Can’t say the same for others I’ve met. Mind if I ask what the ‘plasma’ thing was?”

"It’s alright. They’ve settled their differences by now and mostly get along. They just don’t wanna be married, is all.”

This was going to be a long story.

“It was a huge incident involving a real whackjob named Ghestis. He tried convincing the entire region that making friends with Pokemon was wrong and also tried convincing people to release the friends they had. While I saw where he was coming from, some people can badly abuse the poor things, it turned out his ‘cause’ was fake and he was manipulating everyone. Including the person who was the figurehead of it all.

It blew up in his face pretty badly after I ended up stepping in. I got beat up pretty badly but I ended up winning, thankfully. The figurehead he was manipulating disappeared without a trace after that.

Two years later, he tried again. This time he flipped a shit and tried freezing the entire region with a Pokemon called Kyurem. He abused the poor thing so badly. I ended up having to step in again and won much easier than the first time. After that, there was absolutely no word from either the figurehead or Ghestis.

I hope that summed it up well enough.”

justsimplespeed:

“Yeah, guess I just didn’t expect you ‘cuz you’re the first alternate’a her I’ve met.”

image

“We’re a weird family but we work, and that’s what matters. If it hadn’t been for her and a couple others, I dunno if I’d even be here today t’ tell ya the truth.”

But that was a slightly depressing topic, wasn’t it? Best not to dwell on it.

“What about yours?

"Knowing the alternate universe theory, there are probably many more.”

She was that kind? Suddenly Rebecca wanted to meet her alternate. She wanted to meet the person who influenced this one’s life so much.

“My family’s kinda split. Really nasty divorce but I still love them. I mostly lived with my mom until the Plasma incident. I don’t have any siblings like my alternate does though.”

justsimplespeed:

“One of the nicest people I’ve ever met actually.”

He met her gaze for a second before blinking and doing quite the same thing to her. She seemed to have some odd gadgets here and there but besides that, she seemed as human as ever. Minus certain features of his little sister.

“Yeah. Pretty much. Kinda spooky.”

image

“Everyone’s got look-alikes, I guess. At least it wasn’t some kind of crapsack zombie world or something.”

Rebecca adjusted her headphones, letting out a quiet breath.

“…Is it a kind family?”

justsimplespeed:

“Actually it was her who brought me int’ her family,” he corrected with a brisk wave of his hand. “Neither of us had the happy family life growin’ up so we had plenty in common.”

image

“She must be kind then.”

The taller human looked him over curiously. A bad childhood growing up. It seemed to be occurring more often in the people she met.

“I’m guessing I look like her, too?”
