“I’m not saying I don’t have the information, but…why exactly do you need to know about such a creature?”
Is this what those schools were asking kids to do these days? The thought was mildly concerning to the fox, because really, nobody needed to relive that piece of history.
“School assignment, we’ve gotta write about a subject given at random. I figured you were the best person to ask about it.”
Rebecca hoped she hadn’t done something wrong, still holding her notebook and assignment page.
“Not at all~ She just wanted you to know how much she appreciates it!”
And that was the truth, the demon happily acting as messenger for her old friend. Lately, more and more people had been coming to the old shrine, leaving prayers and offerings, and it was something that delighted the fox. But she often fretted over how to properly thank everyone for their hard work.
The demon was willing to do a few favors.
“She loves everything you leave for her, and so do her kits. I’m serious when I say you’re keeping that family well fed~”
“Ah! I’m glad!”
The bounce the teen made caused the bells tied to her braids to chime, almost happily. To hear that her offerings and efforts were appreciated was incredibly encouraging.
“No complaints about the taste? It’s not too sweet at all?”
A standard question for a baker like her, to make sure the custom recipe that she was taught as a child was still fine to use.
And with that, she left her perch, landing before the girl with grace. Perhaps the fox could have been a little more tactful with this, like actually using a disguise of some sort. But really, she didn’t have time to bother with it, and the girl before her didn’t seem to be bothered by her presence either. So why hide it?
“Are you the one who has been leaving offerings to the fox that lives here?”
“Ah- Yes…”
Feng was definitely not screeching in her head, so there would be no danger. Though Rebecca didn’t know what supernatural threats could be in the real world…
“Should I stop? They aren’t getting annoying, are they?”
The young baker worried about that sometimes, but after the woman in the white kimono gifted her a pair of bells, that worry had died down somewhat. Said bells quietly chimed as she turned her head to the plate of dango she had left on the altar.
Maybe calling down from her perch atop the torii gate wasn’t the smartest, but it only just occurred to the fox that she wanted to talk to that girl in particular. And jumping down in all her demonic glory would only scare the poor thing!
“You have a minute to spare? I want to ask you something!”
“…?”
For a moment, the blonde looked about for just a moment, bells chiming on the ends of her braids, blinking sapphire eyes before looking straight up at the torii gate. Well that was something she didn’t see every day. Feng wasn’t screeching, so she wasn’t in any danger.
