Double checking everything they picked out and put on the table matched as far as they could tell while all the other presents had different words on them. Landing in the trainer’s lap Indigo just stared, kind of unsure of what to do now.

“Open ‘em one at a time, Indigo.”

“It’s very satisfying if you do it by hand.”

She pet their head with a bright smile, gently nudging them to the presents.

“Go ahead, they’re not gonna bite.”

Indigo leaned in so close their nose rubbed up against the paper.

‘This says Indigo?’

Taking the paper they matched the first box, then put the paper up and tried getting the rest without looking at it.

“Mhm.”

“Use the tag to make sure you’ve got the right presents, sweetie.”

She chuckled, sitting down at the coffee table to watch Indigo’s reaction to the gifts she had picked out for them.

Floating over they started looking over every box, but they had a pretty big problem.

‘I can’t read.’

“Since I wrote the tags myself, this is what your name looks like.”

Rebecca got a small piece of paper and a pencil and wrote down Indigo’s name in the same way she had written it on the tags.

“Simply match this up with the tag and those are your presents.”

The moment the ship opened the small Pokemon flew right out and started doing loops and barrel rolls, it felt really good to be back home, they even used their powers to lift up Sapphire and carry her around for a bit.

Once they were done Indigo flew up to the top of the cliff and disappeared from view. Not sensing Rebecca’s presence in the house they went right for the orchard instead.

“Mew!”

While Sapphire didn’t get quite as sick from being floated around like a rag doll. She did wobble around a bit when her feet hit the sand to the tune of Ronny’s hissing chuckle. He picked her and started up the stairs, definitely far behind the gleeful Mewtwo.

At the top he stared in awe at the house, much less the orchard in the back. How rich was this girl?!

Rebecca nearly leaped in surprise at the little Pokemon chirping at her and she turned around, a basket of berries in her arms.

“Indigo? Where have you been? Did Zeke ask you to fly around the town with him?”

The trainer looked very worried for her little charge as she put down the basket and gently looked Indigo over for injuries.

“I told you two that out of Undella Bay was off limits.”

That came so fast they had to wait and process all of it for a couple minutes, but they got the gist of it all, or at least that’s what they felt like.

‘Whom are the presents for if it’s not a birthday then?’

“You and Kin. That is the Christmas tradition. Look for the presents with your name on them and you can open them one at a time.”

Rebecca gave Indigo’s head a gentle pet with a smile.

smallestclone:

Decorations sure were weird, but the Pokemon was still confused.

‘So what are all those words I don’t know? Holiday, Christmas, yearly, and tradition?

Rebecca walked back to the living room, hooking the ornament back on the tree.

“A holiday is kind of like a birthday but we do other things for it. Christmas is a holiday that comes once a year, thus ‘yearly’, we give more than once present on this holiday rather than one on a birthday. A tradition is something you do for a holiday every year without fail.”

smallestclone:

That got them to take it out of their mouth and start examining it, they weren’t sure what glass was but hearing it was made out of window stuff didn’t seem right.

‘Nuh uh, it can’t be, you can’t see through it… that’s a lot of words I don’t know.’

“It’s thinner glass than the window is and it’s painted and decorated.”

“It’s a decoration, not a berry.”

She gently took it from Indigo’s paws and tapped it with a fingernail, demonstrating that it sounded like glass when tapped.

smallestclone:

The Pokemon just kept on chewing but were unable to break or bite into whatever that red thing was.

‘It’s a berry from that weird tree. Why is there a berry tree in the house now?’

“Indigo, that’s made of glass. The same thing windows are made of. You can’t eat it, it’s for decoration. Hang it back on the tree, it’s for the yearly holiday of Christmas. I know it seems weird but it’s just a simple tradition.”

smallestclone:

“Meeeew.”

Letting out a yawn the Pokemon settled down, looks like they were about ready for a long nap. By now the nasty smell should be obvious, Indigo’s nose was still wiggling and snorting a bit because of it.

Rebecca sneezed away from the berries she was handling when the smell finally wafted under her nose, causing her to tear up a little bit before she plopped the berries into the blender.

“Jeez, you’re getting a bath after this, Indigo. You smell pretty bad.”

She started up the blender and quickly covered Indigo’s head to keep the sound from hurting their hearing.
