Rocket Rescue

It took a few moments for the Pokemon to remember just what a blink was and even longer to process everything the Human just said. But once they did Mewtwo gave the trainer a slow blink.

Rebecca softly sighed in relief, very gently squeezing the little Pokemon’s hand.

“I’m glad. Bianca said you needed to rest so I’ll leave you to it, okay? I got a little cot set up in the corner so if you need me, just ‘call’ when you feel up to it.”

The clone’s eyes slowly went to find the source of that sound. When they saw the Human they just stared. Too tired to do anything other than that it seems, not even smile.

Rebecca looked relieved now, a smile on her face as she held the little one’s hand.

“I ‘heard’ your call and I quite literally came running. You’re gonna be okay now, alright? They won’t hurt you anymore.

… Blink if you can understand me?”

There was no for them to tell how long it was before Pokemon started showing any sign of movement. But when their eyes finally, painfully opened. All they could see was a blinding light at first. Mewtwo thought they were still back on the island’s surface until their eyes focused.

A few more silent minutes passed until they realized they weren’t wearing that armor any more and noticed that something was on their face. Being in a room like this the scientist must have got them they thought. Mewtwo tried to move but found their self still too exhausted.

Rebecca mumbled in her sleep before her eyes opened. She looked at the little Pokemon, still leaning on the bed.

“Little one?”

Her hand gently squeezed their hand, letting them know she was there. She had been at their side for a while now.

The island below was completely wiped clean of any trace of Humanity. A large column of smoke and steam, that could be seen for miles came up from Cinnabar. If anyone was still alive they had the best signal for help they could have hoped for. Still it faded in the distance as they left the region.

Mewtwo just laid there in the Human’s grasp. Giving no sign of responding to that mental message or anything at all.

“Must be too tired… I don’t blame them.”

Rebecca just held the little Pokemon close as Zeke carefully landed, allowing her to get off and run into the Center. She immediately called for Bianca, who carefully put the little Pokemon onto a gurney before wheeling them into the treatment room.

The small Pokemon didn’t move in any way when the trainer held them. Not even their chest was moving up and down. For all accounts they most likely seemed dead.

Cinnabar Island kept on shaking with each shock only getting stronger. Eventually the mountain’s top violently blew. With the blast wiping the island’s surface clean of anything man made.

Zeke growled as he took to the clouds to keep them hidden from any other onlookers or trainers surfing from Pallet or Seafoam. Rebecca held onto Zeke as he flew, keeping a strong hold on the little Pokemon.

She decided to try to mentally reach out to the little one.

‘Sweetie? Can you hear me?’

Before long, Undella was in sight, the former champion softly directing Zeke to the Pokemon Center.

The screen right in front of their face fizzled and glitched. Which did nothing to help them calm down. Feeling something on their hand Mewtwo grabbed onto it and close their eyes.

Even though they couldn’t see it. The screen flashed green. A few moments later the armor opened and Mewtwo fell right out of its back. Last thing the Pokemon could remember was the blinding sun before passing out.

Rebecca breathed a sigh of relief, pulling off her scarf and gently wrapping it around the little one. Zeke huffed as he pushed the rubble off of himself before pausing, looking up at the small mountain near the middle of the island. Something was off.

The Zekrom picked up Rebecca with his mouth and plopped her on his back, ignoring the coughs from the dust as he took off. As soon as he was off the ground, the piles of rubble tumbled over each other as the ground shook.

Rebecca held the little Pokemon close to her chest, intending to take them straight to Bianca when they got back to Undella. Zeke could drop them off right by the Pokemon Center there.

The small Pokemon was heavily bruised and battered. Their tail was bent in such a way that it was obviously broken.

Something started dripping from behind the mask as a bunch of exhausted whines started. Fidgeting they tried to move but the armor wouldn’t buckle. Being stuck and unable to see like this reminded them of their tube.

Panicking they just struggled as hard as they could until they heard it. With a flash on the inside of the mask the armor was starting back up again. Showing words and symbols the Pokemon didn’t know.

Rebecca hugged the little Pokemon very gently, softly speaking to him as she sat on the ground, a hand gently grasping onto the little Pokemon’s.

“It’s okay, little one… I’m here… I’m so sorry… I’m sorry… I should have looked for you earlier… I’m sorry, little one…”

“This armor is strange… But… I heard someone giving commands when you were on the ground… Is that how it works?”

Zeke was grumbling a few feet away in a pile of rubble as Rebecca looked thoughtful. A chance she had to take if she wanted to save the little Mewtwo. It was a shot in the dark with nothing but a slingshot and a pebble.

“Command; Release.”

Mewtwo did not see that coming at all. Being slammed into a building they went right through it and one wall of the next one. At the moment every thing was silent and still.

But it didn’t last long. Dark spheres formed around Zekrom before rushing inward to them all at once. Teleporting right back the experiment looked ready to attack again. But the eyes of the armor suddenly shut and they just fell on the ground. All accompanied by the sound of something powering down.

Zeke was knocked backwards right as Rebecca pushed aside a piece of dusty rubble, gasping at the little Pokemon that was now on the ground. She went over and knelt down, gently pulling them into her arms, looking absolutely worried.

“Little one? Little one, can you hear me?”

‘Can you hear me? I’m here, little one.’
