Somehow near-silently pops up beside him, offering two sticks of dango. “Here, for you.”
“…Thanks.” He muttered quietly, though not really hungry he popped one of them in his mouth anyways, pulling one of the dango free with his teeth and chewing idolly.
“No problemo, ‘Suke. So, wanna tell me what’s up?”
Her question was a soft, quiet one. If he didn’t want to answer, that would be the only one she asked. Rebecca wouldn’t push it further. She popped her own stick of dango into her mouth, waiting for the other to reply.
And here she comes! Tearing around the corner of the shrine to run full tilt towards one of her favorite visitors. Clearly, she’s very excited to see her again.
“You’re certainly full of energy today, aren’t you?”
Rebecca had already knelt down, putting her covered basket on the stone ground, before offering her hands for the fox to sniff at. She probably smelt like the treats she brought, having baked them today. The bells on her braids chimed happily in response.
“How have things been? Lots of offerings this week? I’ve got some special ones today, and the weekly offering.”
“Not at all~ She just wanted you to know how much she appreciates it!”
And that was the truth, the demon happily acting as messenger for her old friend. Lately, more and more people had been coming to the old shrine, leaving prayers and offerings, and it was something that delighted the fox. But she often fretted over how to properly thank everyone for their hard work.
The demon was willing to do a few favors.
“She loves everything you leave for her, and so do her kits. I’m serious when I say you’re keeping that family well fed~”
“Ah! I’m glad!”
The bounce the teen made caused the bells tied to her braids to chime, almost happily. To hear that her offerings and efforts were appreciated was incredibly encouraging.
“No complaints about the taste? It’s not too sweet at all?”
A standard question for a baker like her, to make sure the custom recipe that she was taught as a child was still fine to use.
